Salary: £21,000 - £22,000 PA.
A keen and technically knowledgeable individual is required to complement our existing development team in creating market leading consumer and industry based technologies.
As a Perl software developer you will be expected to design systems based on project specifications, and then implement them either on your own or as part of a group. Extensive testing should be carried out throughout the development process to aid quick deployment. Other activities include Linux system administration, contributing to the design of other projects, and offering technical support to clients. The majority of our projects feature challenging constraints related to efficiency, bandwidth and application size so logical thinking and complex problem solving plays a large part compared to most software development roles.
You may be expected to work as part of a team to design, implement and test systems from scratch, or to modify existing Perl systems.
Requirements:
- Must have extensive knowledge of Perl
- Must be competent with Linux console
- Must have knowledge of SQL, preferably MySQL
- Apache experience useful
- Clean, commented code
- Good technical aptitude for problem solving
- Must have awareness of computer security and coding securely

WHITSTABLE, KENT
Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 PA.
This is a unique, hands-on position for an experienced, security conscious Perl and Java programmer.
You will work with a small team of computer programmers to produce innovate, bespoke software solutions both directly and indirectly related to text messaging, reporting directly to the Technical Director.
Activities will include:
- Production of specifications
- Direction of coding team
- Setting of goals and deadlines
- Monitoring of the development process
- Advanced programming, including the creation of complex code/algorithms
- Testing and signing-off on code and systems
As part of the role you will need to effectively manage and organise your team, as well as dealing with recruitment, training, reviews, and disciplinary action.
Successful applicants will have both technical and managerial experience, having thrived in both areas for a number of years. A thorough understanding of computing and the Internet, as well as a diverse knowledge of programming languages including Perl and Java is essential. Secure programming (particularly for web applications) and achieving efficiency through design are fundamental concepts that should already be well practiced. Knowledge of Linux or Unix systems is required and Apple Mac experience would be useful.
Experience will be considered first and foremost, but education to degree level or above in computing-related subjects is preferred.
