How do I run the Windows SMS Server as a Microsoft Windows service?

To install the Windows SMS Server service run the Windows SMS Server program from the Start menu, then go to File > Configuration and click on 'Install service'. If the service is already installed this option is replaced by a button to uninstall the service.

When the service is installed you can start it from the Windows SMS Server configuration menu (in which case it will close the Windows SMS Server program) or you can start it by using the Services control panel applet. You can find this by going to Control Panel > Admin Tools and clicking on Services. Find the WinSmsServer service and click 'start'.

Please note if you want to use the Windows SMS Server program you must stop the service first. You can do this by using the 'stop' option from the Services control panel applet.
