Unix Time

Unix time, or POSIX time, is a system for describing a point in time: it is the number of seconds elapsed since midnight UTC of January 1, 1970, not counting leap seconds. It is used by many modern computers.

Many websites offer online conversions between standard time representation and Unix time, for example http://www.unixtimestamp.com.
